This winter transfer window proves to be a period of feverish rumour and possible big-money transfers. A number of prominent footballers are being linked with transfers away from their present clubs. We examine a selection of the top figures that might be changing clubs in January.

A. Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the player available, reports suggest an important transfer is close. The 25-year-old possesses a deal featuring a sizeable release clause active for a brief window at the start of the month. Latest developments indicate the Premier League champions have emerged as his services. Other interested parties such as Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have moved on to alternative options, potentially opening the door for clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to make a last-minute bid.

Marc Guéhi

This England defender has continued to excel for Crystal Palace despite a summer transfer to Anfield collapsing. As his contract set to run out in the close season, this represents the club's last opportunity to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of elite clubs, including Manchester City and multiple European giants including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to be interested. However, a January exit remains difficult, especially given the coach's dependence on the defender.

B. Johnson

The Wales forward has had starting opportunities hard to come by at Tottenham this campaign. Although finishing as the club's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, Johnson has started just a small number of Premier League matches. It is understood the North London club would be willing to consider a sale for the right valuation, thought to be in the around forty million pounds. The Cherries are currently leading the chase, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an inquiry.

R. Neves

This Portugal playmaker might be set for a comeback to the English top flight after a period in Saudi Arabia. Now just twenty-eight, while his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a potential opportunity. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been connected to the former Wolves man. Additionally, there are rumours from Spanish media that he is prepared to accept a pay cut for a move to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This veteran German goalkeeper finds himself as the third option at Barcelona under the manager Hansi Flick. After lost his place and undergone an operation, a winter exit seems increasingly probable. Villa were initially linked as a potential suitor, but that option currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly showing curiosity in the keeper.

I. Toney

The proven English centre-forward has kept scoring regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could enhance his dwindling hopes of making the England World Cup. But, securing a transfer presents major challenges. Al-Ahli do not wish to part with him, and his reported huge salary render any move complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been linked as admirers.

The Turin club are desperate to secure the youngster to a lengthy contract but face a battle to keep one of Europe's brightest prospects.

Kees Smit

The highly-touted Dutch midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, Smit has become a regular in the AZ side. The 19-year-old is heavily tipped to complete a big-money move in January. Newcastle are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a deal valued at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
